I WANT TO CURATE I WANT TO HOST ARTIST SUBMISSIONS
HOW IT WORKS
THE
CAMPAIGN
Our Drawingrooms exhibitions are crowdfunded and each one needs 40 pledges to make it happen. As soon as the target is reached we will make a few extra ‘General Tickets’ available depending on the size of the venue. Pledges are usually around R150 but can change from event to event.
YOUR
REWARDS
Each person who pledges or buys a general tickets will not only get exclusive access to the private one-night-only exhibition but will also receive a postcard-sized limited edition print of one of the works on display and signed by the artist.
THE LUCKY
DRAW
This is where it gets really interesting. At the end of the night there will be a lucky draw and one person (sometimes more) will get to spend half of the money from pledges and general tickets to purchase works on display. If everything is already sold out by then the winner will be able to commission new work with the money available.
HOST &
CURATOR
Drawingrooms exhibitions take place in private venues that will only be made known to guests who pledge or buy general tickets. We will also feature guest curators who will add their own unique flavour to each exhibition.
I WANT TO CURATE I WANT TO HOST
We’re looking for creative souls. The thinkers, the makers, the doers of interesting things. You will get to collaborate with our Drawingrooms team and add your own flavour to the exhibition. No previous experience in the art world is needed, just a keen eye. Because the event will be crowdfunded a strong social network is important. We want to spread the word far and wide!
We will obviously need someone to host this awesome exhibition of yours. Some curators may prefer to host the exhibition themselves to give it that extra personal touch. Or maybe you prefer to ask a friend or relative. If you have something of a public persona then we can also create a “host poster” for you to share with your network.
We will work closely with you to decide on the theme and criteria for the exhibition. Are you thinking paintings or photography? Maybe mixed media or illustrations? You might have a network of artists that you would like to invite to exhibit their work, or maybe you prefer to do a call for submissions.
It’s a fun way to make some moolah. 10% of all art sales at the event will go to the guest curator. We’re going to be working together on the exhibition so it’s only fair that you get your share. If you decide to have the event in your own home you will receive a further 5% as the host.
If having guests over and hosting people is your thing then you will love Drawingrooms. Turn your home into a gallery for one night! Hosts may apply to curate as well but it’s not a requirement. You have the option of nominating someone else or you can simply ask us to invite someone. Our team will also make sure that the night runs smoothly and we’ll organise some snacks and refreshments for the guests.
Your address will be kept secret and we’ll never publish it anywhere. Only guests who pledge or purchase general tickets will know where it is. We don’t sell tickets at the door so we will always know who is at the event as guests provide their names and contact details when they pledge or purchase general tickets. We will have someone checking tickets at the door.
Our team will need the morning and afternoon on the day of the exhibition to come and set up. It takes a bit of time and planning to make sure that all the art is placed in the right spots. We won’t hit nails into your walls but rather use the ones you have. We also try not to really move the furniture around so that your house still feels like a home when guests arrive.
5% of all art sales at the event will go to the host. We can’t do this without you so this is our little way of saying ‘thank you’. Hosts who also act as guest curator will receive a further 10% of sales. Nice, eh?
