Press release

The Greater Tygerberg Partnership has partnered with local creative startup City Soirée to make it possible for music fans to host their favourite artist or band in their own home for one of their signature living room concerts, called Secret Soirée. The idea behind Secret Soirée is simple: give fans the opportunity to connect more directly with their favourite musicians and provide more performance opportunities more often for artists.

City Soirée uses their innovative crowdfunding approach — first of its kind for events in South Africa — to facilitate and help organise these intimate concerts. Together the Partnership and City Soirée are plugging their efforts into making these intimate concerts a reality in the Tygerberg region.

Each event needs only 30 fans to “pledge” in order for the show to happen. A pledge is like buying an early bird ticket but with the guarantee of getting your money back should the event not get the required number of pledges to go ahead. This takes the risk out of the process and makes sure that events only go ahead where there is a perfectly sized audience. Once the target is reached ‘general tickets’ are made available if there is room for more people. Each Secret Soirée is capped at 60 people in order to ensure an intimate and exclusive experience for everyone. The host’s address is kept secret and only given to guests who pledge or buy general tickets through City Soirée’s website.

Artists and fans can connect in a much more personal way. Hang out, share stories and maybe even a bottle of wine. You get to listen to your favourite band with ONLY other fans that love them as much as you do.

Past events include an impressive and diverse range of artists such as Francois van Coke, Nakhane Touré, Koos Kombuis, Valiant Swart, Derek Gripper, Mr Cat & The Jackal, Bateleur, Guy Buttery, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Shane Cooper, Bokani Dyer, Albert Frost and even some international artists like Stelth Ulvang (The Lumineers), Willy Mason, Laura Burhenn (The Mynabirds/Bright Eyes), and many more.

City Soirée and The Greater Tygerberg Partnership have joined forces to develop a sustainable creative movement in Cape Town’s Northern Suburbs and to provide both fans as well as artists with exciting and interesting events. If you would like to host a Secret Soirée in your own home please go here for more information and fill in the easy application form. You choose the artist and City Soirée will contact them, see if they are available and set it up. All that is left for you to do is spread the word and get friends and other fans to pledge!
