Nina Fourie-Gouws


Nina Fourie-Gouws is a musician who effortlessly moves between the traditional worlds of Bach and Haydn and that of contemporary composers such as Leo Brouwer and Carlo Domeniconi. It is especially within the modern repertoire that she is fast establishing herself as a force amongst the new guard of talented young musicians leading the charge on the South African music establishment.

She completed her degree in Music Performance at the University of Pretoria and also received a licentiate in Classical Guitar Teaching from UNISA. She has received extensive master classes from Carlos Bonell at the Royal College of Music in London as well as from Esther Steenbergen, a member of the acclaimed Amsterdam Guitar Trio, in Amsterdam. Other master classes received locally include famous guitarists and composers such as Nikita Koshkin (Russia), Marco Tamayo (Cuba), Štěpán Rak (Czech Republic) and Victor Villadangos (Argentina). Nina Fourie-Gouws was the overall winner in the Standard Bank Beeld Pretoria Eisteddfod in 2000 as well as combined second place in the National Guitar competition in 2001. In 2012 she has taken part in the Volterra Project in Italy under the guidance of acclaimed guitarist, Antigoni Goni.
