REWARDS
Each person who pledges will get a limited edition hand-made postcard by the artist mailed to them before the event. Please note: general ticket purchases do not come with a limited edition post card. All the money from the pledges will go into a “pot” and one lucky attendee’s name will be drawn at the end of the night. That person will get to select one piece of art, or a collection of art works, to a guaranteed minimum value of R5 000 (total amount from pledges). The draw will take place at 21:00 and should the person who’s name is drawn not be present, they will forfeit their chance and another name will be drawn.
Works on display will be available for sale. If all pieces are sold out by 21:00 the winner will have the opportunity to commission a work from the artist to the value of the money in the “pot”.
As if all of this isn’t enough, we have also partnered with CocoáFair who will be doing chocolate tasting as well as have a limited edition chocolate for sale covered in a beautiful print by the artist.
LORENZO NASSIMBENILorenzo Nassimbeni’s new solo exhibition, entitled ‘Home’ represents a sort of return. Born and raised in Cape Town, the coast and oceanic element of the city are close to his heart. Currently living and working in Johannesburg, the artist chose to view the city of his origin through the lens of, for him, its most special component, the sea.
Consistently working in a series of layers, in the architectural tradition, Nassimbeni has divided the exhibition into 3 distinct parts, all relating to the ocean. They are, the pure essence of water as a substance (surface), the lie of the land beneath the surface of the water (submerged), and the built form interacting with the edge of the coast (interface, eg. tidal pool).
The body of work seeks to uncover Nassimbeni’s understanding of ocean as architectural element, and in so doing, realise the essence of home, through the extraction of essence, and subsequent exposition of spirit.
Artist’s statement Lorenzo Nassimbeni’s creative work is characterized by its focus on the area where the disciplines of architecture and fine art meet. This is expressed by identifying, extracting and representing the artistic meaning within urban and landscape conditions. His portfolio reveals that the space between the disciplines of fine art and architecture may be defined as an environment which is richly generative of new creative expression. When overlaid onto urban and landscape environments both abstract and specific, the contextual dimensions emerge illuminating new possibilities of understanding. Lorenzo creates artworks which occupy the interstices between architecture and fine art thus creating a new site of conceptual discourse and practice.
