Enough fans have pledged to makes this event possible. General tickets now available!

Drawingrooms is your chance to turn your home into an art gallery for one night!

All the money from the pledges will go into a “pot” and one lucky attendee’s name will be drawn at the end of the night. That person will get to select one piece of art, or a collection of art works, to a guaranteed minimum value of R4 000 (total amount from pledges). Once the pledge target has been reached and the event is confirmed more tickets will be made available and that money will also be added to the total. The draw will take place at 21:00 and should the person who’s name is drawn not be present, they will forfeit their chance and another name will be drawn.

Works on display will be available for sale. If all pieces are sold out by 21:00 the winner will have the opportunity to commission a work from the artist to the value of the money in the “pot”.

Guns & Rain is a curated online gallery of work by contemporary fine artists from southern Africa, including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana. Most of the artists are young and emerging, but some of them are already established. You can order your art online and have it delivered anywhere in the world, but you can also come see art in the flesh, right here in Johannesburg.

Bev Butkow’s art depicts girls in states of striving and submission, exploring the realities of gender inequality and access to education in South Africa. She is also interested in the effects of human tendencies toward stereotyping and discrimination. Her multi-disciplinary practice combines the use of oil painting, drawing, collage and assemblage/sculpture. Bev’s successful inaugural solo exhibition titled m/other took place at Lizamore in Johannesburg in August 2015. Bev is an accountant by training and works from her studio at the the Bag Factory in Newtown.

Using his own skilfully crafted handmade paper and printed silhouettes, Thina Dube’s work explores the politics of language in South Africa, and the ways in which individual identities are dramatically shaped by what languages they can or cannot speak. Born in 1993 and raised in Johannesburg, Thina is a recent graduate of the University of Johannesburg, and is currently completing an art teaching diploma, whilst working in retail on weekends. Thina is also an art therapist and has worked at a school for mentally handicapped children.

Themba Khumalo’s cityscapes capture the beauty, energy, fears and grit of Africa’s wealthiest city. The vast scale and density of Johannesburg’s commuter taxi networks, the relentlessness of urban life, and famous landmarks like the Hillbrow tower all make an appearance in Khumalo’s portfolio. Etching and drypoint are Khumalo’s chosen printing techniques, letting him describe the range of tones present in his charcoal drawings, together with intense strong line. He also acknowledges the foundation and direction of home, which is also suggestive of the South African spirit of ‘ubuntu’: “I am who I am because of my upbringing”, he says.
